Lab Engineer – Physics Department

The Department of Physics at Ben-Gurion University is seeking a skilled and motivated Lab Engineer to support our research laboratories and teaching labs.

This is a hands-on engineering role at the heart of scientific research, innovation, and academic learning.

What you’ll do

• Provide technical and engineering support for research labs and teaching laboratories
• Ensure proper operation of laboratory systems and equipment
• Develop new experimental capabilities, including opto-mechanical design and computer-controlled systems
• Perform ongoing and periodic maintenance of scientific instruments
• Improve and update experiments in the department’s teaching labs
• Guide and support students in research and project-based work
• Assist academic staff with in-class experiment demonstrations
• Manage laboratory equipment procurement: supplier communication, quotations, purchasing
• Maintain safety standards and act as the department’s safety liaison

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Engineering (Master’s preferred)
• ~2 years of relevant experience or outstanding graduates with no experience
• Advantage: experience with software and measurement tools (SolidWorks, Matlab, Python, etc.)
• Advantage: experience in teaching, mentoring, or technical instruction
